My painting journey began in 2004 when I found new hope through Jesus Christ. Following the Lord has helped me to move forward, get out of my comfort zone by reaching out to others, and trying new things like taking lessons in oil painting and sketching. My art teacher was very encouraging and would allow us to express our own ideas while he gave his gentle correction. There’s a special place in my heart for the homeless. When I began painting the magnets with Bible verses, I would give them out to friends, family, coworkers and my church family.
After I gave one to a coworker for her birthday, she said her husband was having surgery that day and the verse encouraged her. I would give them to the homeless with whatever change I had. Some would take it with a questioning look. Others, their eyes would light up as they read the verse. One day, at a gas station, I gave one to a young man who was putting gas in a Uhaul truck, and wishing him a safe journey. He said “My Aunt would like
that. She’s the one I’m helping move.” Her car was parked nearby and he went over and gave it to her while I finished putting gas in my car. She ran over waving the picture and crying. She said” my husband just left me and I’m having to move away. This is what I needed to hear”! The verse on her magnet was: Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future”
God’s reassurance and guidance through His written word can be a great comfort in just a small way. His written Word can impact our lives and truly “move mountains”.
